The founding grant by Senator Leland Stanford and Jane Lathrop Stanford in 1885 conveyed to the University an endowment of approximately $20 million and the Stanfords' farm at Palo Alto. As of today, this original grant has grown into a sizeable endowment and an extensive physical plant located on a portion of the approximately 8,200 acres owned by the University.

Stanford Management Company is a division of the University established in 1991 to manage Stanford's financial and real estate investment assets. - Office of Development
