About Stanford

The University

Stanford University is one of a select group of universities that has achieved eminence in both undergraduate and graduate education and in a broad range of academic disciplines. It is internationally recognized for the quality of its teaching and research, its distinguished faculty and its outstanding student body. The founding grant by Senator Leland Stanford and Jane Lathrop Stanford in 1885 conveyed to the University an endowment of approximately $20 million and the Stanfords' farm at Palo Alto. As of today, this original grant has grown into a sizeable endowment and an extensive physical plant located on a portion of the approximately 8,200 acres owned by the University.
